30 Days of Design

This is the first design. It is the name of a friends business. They make home made dog treats. They are starting up pretty soon and getting ready to get a holiday selection ready for you. The dog treat in this logo was created by me using photoshop. The rest of it was designed in Illustrator. My inspiration that I had was my dog's, dog tag. Let me know what you think.

Day 2

Revelations Salon is a business that I know of and thought it would be neat to create a logo with there name. The "V" is inspired by hair folicals and strands of hair. I made one of the strands of hair flow downward to create the "S" for the word, "Salon." I wanted to keep it tones that you would normally find in hair. Let me know what you think.

Day 3

Ok, I know this isn't a business name but it is a mast head. I couldn't come up with a business name last night so I decided to make a mast head for my 30 Days of Design.

Day 4

This is a logo that I should have been working on several months ago. It is a small business where they make hand made lotions using all natural products. The owner really likes sunflowers so I thought it would give it that fresh natural look to the logo.

Day 5

I was learning a few new effects and this is what I came up with. I did this whole thing in photoshop. I am going through a retro kick I think.

Day 6

Here is a different view of the same type of techniques as the one above.

Day 7

Some other techniques I have been playing with in photoshop. Again, everything was created in photoshop in this image.

Day 8

Here is another exhibit ad. Again everything here was created in photoshop.

Day 9

I thought I would do a little DVD cover. This was just me messing around.

Day 10

I created this entirely in photoshop. I was just playing around with effects and thought that it turned out pretty neat.

Day 11

I decided it was time to create a new header for my blog. I created everything you see in photoshop except for my monogram, I created that in Illustrator.

You were always so talented. Good work. I love the Salon one. The V/S is awesome. I probably wouldn't have guessed it was "hair" but I do really like it. The dog treat I think needs to be a different color because it's kind of the color of something else that comes from a dog. But other than that it's a good design too. Don't know if that's what you wanted to hear or from me, but there you go.

Hi Adam: I like the doggy treat idea -- but for the holiday could you insert a picture of a dog wearing a holiday cap on the larger part of the paw.

As far as the Salon -- can't think of anything I would change.

I like that you can see the texture on the dog print. It's almost as if you can feel the texture on it. Well done! I love them!

I feel like I have no level of credibility so I really am hesitant to comment. I also don't know what the image these places are going for so my comments will be strictly based on my personal preferences. I love the concept of the salon image but the font of "Revelations" is bugging me a little, or maybe its the color. Maybe a deeper brown. Also the "V" looks like a flame/fire. I guess if the salon was into lots of colorings and creative color work that would be appropriate and awesome? Like I said, no credibility.

As for the dog treats, I do not have a dog or animal for that matter, not sure what would draw me to one that treat over another. THe little claws threw me off a bit, are they necessary? I can't believe you can create this stuff! My usage of Photoshop is so basic and juvenile (its even the elements version).

I think it looks good. If possible I would make the S curl a little more at the end. At first glance I just saw revelations alon. I like the font you chose for salon and the color choices, but the font chosen for revelations doesn't match the more elegant or sophisticated font of salon.

I really like the Sierra treats logo. It conveys everything in a very clean and professional way.

Adam, I am no artist, so I'm not sure how much help I can be... But I'll give you my critique as best as I can.

The first logo is good, I like the imprint of the dog paw but I don't like the metallic back round. The product is a home made product and the label seems very generic not personal enough. The lettering perhaps too block style.

Per the second design I really can't find much critique I like it. Very much the logo of a hair salon.

I like the Revelation, but I'm afraid the "S" in Salon didn't translate super well.

Thanks for all your comments. Although some of you were hesitant to give me a critique, each suggestion and comment was extremely helpful and will help me improve my work. I will take all of your comments into consideration. Keep up the comments. It's very encouraging!

The 30 days of design is cool but I don't like the color of the backgound or the 30 Days -- they are too close of a gray -- the globe and OF Design stand out which I like. Maybe change the color of 30 Days to white so that it also stands out.

I like the gray background of the 30 days of design masthead, especially the sun rays through the lettering of "30 days". (I guess that means take all of our advice with a grain of salt.) Anyways, I think it looks very seamless. The only thing I might change is the bold white "of design". Maybe experiment with a little more transparency? Also, I love when designers get creative with their typography. Here is a link to one of my friend's blogs who is designing in New York. Kind of cool mix of text for something simple like a ticket. Maybe BYU-Idaho has some shows coming up and you could do a mock up of a ticket for one of your designs. You're doing great!

Hi Adam == On the Shelly's logo -- how about a hand replacing the sunflower -- or a smaller sunflower then add a small hand as well.
You do have a talent. Keep up the good work !!

Thank you again everyone for the comments. Just to let everyone know I will be making some changes to some of the logos based on comments and based on what the people would like who are purchasing the logos. But keep all input coming. It is very useful to me. I promise you will start to see some changes on some of the logos soon.

Adam: I really like Caving and Rain -- wouldn't change a thing. The issue I have with Museum is that the smaller letters on the bottom "Museum of ...." don't stand out ...at least to me and the month December is hard too read. Maybe a different font ??

BTW. Totally found out which friends are the owners of Sierra Treats!!! I'm super excited for them! That didn't really help you at all...Just letting you know! LOVE YOU!

So it is interesting to read all of your comments!!! Adam really appreciates all of your help. I like seeing how with each comment it gives new light to each design and how it could be done differently. I get the insider scoop to know what he is up to, which I think biases me, but each of you can give Adam the first impression of how each design appears to you. Thanks for all your help!!!!

I appreciate all your comments everyone. Please keep them coming.

Adam: I love your last 3 -- wouldn't change anything. You have a great sense of creativity with combining the tools available to you. Keep up the great designs -- you are destined to be very successful in your career.
